oh you(tube) people in the world

I want to compile a list of all the ridiculous comments people leave on artists' youtube videos. But that would require way too much energy on my end.

I understand that once you release something out into the vast world of the internet, you are going to be subject to getting a reaction. Sometimes it's positive, sometimes it's negative, but whichever way, it's out of your control and you understand ahead of time that it just comes with the territory.

I try really hard not to delete comments people make on my various videos. I'm lucky enough to get mostly positive feedback, for which I am really grateful! But I have deleted a few. More specifically on my "Apologize" cover that has received a few thousand views.

The point of covering a song is NOT TO SING IT EXACTLY LIKE THE ORIGINAL ARTIST. I sing covers because I love the songs, but if I didn't try to do something to make it more "mine" then I would be lacking any sort of creativity or innovation, and so that is why perhaps I adjust the tempo, the key, the style.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But if I get one more comment asking me why I use a capo "because not using a capo really isn't that hard" or telling me that I should really slow it down because it's way too fast, I might feel compelled to throw a pie in your face.

And maybe this is just another lesson in patience, and perhaps I have just used energy that could have been better utilized elsewhere, but I had to say it.

I would never watch a youtube video of any artist and tell them what they should do differently. They're the artist. I am the fan. Either I like it or I don't. And if I do, I'll tell you. If I don't, I'll go watch something else. It's pretty simple.

Again, most things I read are positive. And the negative things, well, they're helping me develop a thick skin (I found my first random blog mention the other day....said something along the lines of "her lyrics aren't much but her tunes are good" - I was really ecstatic to be MENTIONED, let alone be given a half-compliment. Haha, go me). So I guess I'm grateful for it all.

But no, for the thousandth time to the dude who has a fetish for guitar straps, I won't put one on when I'm playing, sitting down. I don't need a guitar strap if I am sitting down.
